Oral-B Pro 2 2500 vs Pro 3 3000

Oral-B Pro 2 2500 vs Pro 3 3000

Which one would we choose?

Our Choice: Oral-B Pro 2 2500 (view on Amazon)
2nd Choice: Oral-B Pro 3 3000 (view on Amazon)

Electric Teeth Verdict:

With nothing more than the colour of a brush handle and an extra brush head differentiating these two brushes it is really only price or an intense desire for a particular colour option that will sway any purchasing decision.

Unless you prefer the blue colour of the Pro 3 3000, the Pro 2 2500 is the brush to go for, and is actually the brush we recommend as the best overall choice.

Key differences

  • Pro 3 3000 is available in only one colour (Blue/White) compared to the 2 colour options of the Pro 2 2500 (Black/White and Pink/White)
  • The Pro 3 3000 comes with 2 brush heads (1 x CrossAction and 1 x 3D White) compared to the 1 of the Pro 2 2500 (1 x CrossAction/3D White (subject to variant)).
  • Pro 2 2500 generally cheaper to purchase.

Please note: High street and online retailer Boots, have a different variant of the Pro 2 2500.  Instead of a travel case, a tube of Oral-B’s Pro-Expert toothpaste is included and the brush handle grip colour is Blue.

Please Note

In 2017 Oral-B have launched the Pro 2 2500 and the Pro 3 3000 which we are comparing here.

These are replacements to the Pro 2500 and the Pro 3000, note the extra 2 and 3 in the product names for the newer models.

The primary difference between the older model and 2017’s new model is the battery.  The older NiMH battery has been replaced with Li-Ion, doubling the battery life.

The Pro 3 3000 has also lost a cleaning mode and has a slightly different box contents.

A comparison of the older models is available here.

We wish to make you aware of the different models to ensure you make the right comparison and are getting the brush best suited to you and your needs.

Detailed Comparison: What’s the difference between the Oral-B Pro 2 2500 and Pro 3 3000?

There is a high likelihood you are reading this because you are confused by the range of Oral-B electric toothbrushes.

Don’t worry, you are not alone, the range is confusing, especially when the differences between models are as negligible as they are with the these two.

The Pro 2 2500 brush handle comes in 2 options.  A Black and White colour combination and a Pink and White offering.

Black and Pink is the colour of the rubber grip that runs down the front of the brush handle.

The rest of the handle and the main body of the brush is a gloss White in colour.

Only 1 colour option is available with the Pro 3 3000.  It is a Blue and White configuration, where Blue is the colour of the grip on the front.

All make sense?  2 colour options for the Pro 2 2500 and 1 for the Pro 3 3000.

So, the next difference is the brush head supplied.

The Pro 2 2500 comes with either a single CrossAction or single 3D White brush head, whereas the 3 3000 comes with 1 of each included in the box.

This means you get a little extra value in the Pro 3 3000 as an extra brush head is included.

The brush heads supplied are just 2 different styles from a range of brush heads, all of which are fully interchangeable with the Oral-B electric toothbrushes.

Check out our complete guide to Oral-B brush heads, that explains all the differences (there is a video too).

CrossAction is essentially the default/universal head that is great for most people.

Not that is will necessarily make a huge amount of difference, but with the 2 2500 typically the Black/White option comes with the CrossAction head, whilst the Pink/White comes with the 3D White brush head.

They are often labelled differently on the shop shelves.

Oral-B Pro 2 2500N and 2500W.

The N and W refer to the brush heads.

N = CrossAction and W = 3D White.

If you want the Pink brush handle but prefer the idea of the CrossAction brush head, no problem.  Just purchase the CrossAction heads separately.

And that is the difference between these two brushes.

The handle colour and the brush heads supplied.  Aside from this, the physical size, performance, battery life, weight and dimensions are the same.

Both have a built in timer and pacer, a pressure sensor, 2 cleaning modes, a water resistance and come with a 2 year warranty as well as a travel case.

Does one clean better than the other?

Assuming you use either brush handle with the same style of brush head then there is no difference between the way in which these two brushes clean.

Use the Pro 2 2500 or the 3000 and you will see or notice no difference.

As the Pro 3 3000 comes with a 3D White brush head as well as a CrossAction head, you may get different results than if you used a Pro 2 2500 with a CrossAction head only.

Both have the same motors and the same cleaning modes.  Unlike some models that do have more or less powerful motors and different modes, these are identical.

Using the smaller round brush heads that Oral-B promote you can get a fantastic clean and they will all remove more plaque than a manual toothbrush leaving your mouth cleaner and fresher than before.

Is one better priced than the other?

Yes and this is ultimately what makes the decision for you between these two brushes.

If you were to go by the recommended retail prices (RRP) set by Oral-B then there is a £20 difference in price.  That is theoretically £20 for a single brush head and to have a Blue and White coloured handle.

For a start, most retailers sell both these brushes at prices less than RRP.

The Pro 3 3000 is more commonly found on the high street and retail stores where if shopping online you will find both models.

With the Pro 2 2500 RRP being less than the 3000’s, in almost all instances this will be the cheaper brush.

Typical selling prices online are around £30-40 for the Pro 2 2500 and £45-55 for the Pro 3 3000, you can see how the ‘premium’ for the 3000 still exists.

£20 premium for a brush that comes in a particular colour and with 1 additional brush head is a lot to pay.  Especially when you consider that the average price of a single brush head is about £3.50.  In fact you can get 8 x 3D White brush heads for this price!

Conclusion & which one should I buy?

Well for us this is a pretty clear cut decision, the Pro 2 2500 is the brush to buy.

It is about £20 cheaper and the only sacrifice potentially is the colour of the brush handle.

Whilst it is nice to have the extra brush head included with the Pro 3 3000 it is in our opinion not a justifiable premium to pay for so little extra.

You may feel differently, or the pricing might be such that the 3000 is the better buy, you make the decision you are happy with based on the facts presented above.
