Oral-B Pro 600 vs Pro 2 2000 1

Which one would we choose?

Our choice: Oral-B Pro 2 2000 / Amazon, eBay / ~£79.99

2nd choice: Oral-B Pro 600 / Amazon, eBay / ~£34.9

The Pro 2 2000 wins, primarily because it offers more cleaning power, pressure sensor and double the battery life, making it a worthwhile upgrade.

However, the Pro 600 is excellent option if you want the benefits of electric on a budget.

Detailed comparison: what’s the difference between the Oral-B Pro 600 and Pro 2 2000?

These 2 brushes fall at the lower end of the electric toothbrush range from Oral-B, but they offer most of what you need of an electric toothbrush at a good price point.

So let’s take a detailed look at the two and explain the differences.

Oral-B Pro 600 vs Pro 2 2000 1

Starting with the cleaning modes, the Pro 600 offers just 1 cleaning mode, Daily Clean.  This is the default, go to mode available on all Oral-B brushes, including the Pro 2 2000.

The cleaning cycle lasts for 2 minutes, 30 seconds for each quadrant.

The 2 2000 has a second mode, Sensitive.

Oral-B Pro 600 vs Pro 2 2000 2

Ideally suited for those with sore, inflamed and even bleeding gums. It offers a gentle yet thorough clean.

The cleaning cycle lasts for 2 minutes like Daily Clean.

For many the Sensitive mode will not be required, but if you do suffer with particularly sore gums you may find it useful particularly when paired with a Sensitive brush head.

A small difference and one that really is only noticeable when using the brushes side by side (even then you are hard pushed to tell) is that the motor on the Pro 2 2000 is more powerful.

Oral-B Pro 600 vs Pro 2 2000 3

If offers more movements than the Pro 600.

Long term this can make the 2000 the better brush for cleaning by the 600 is a massive step up on any manual brushing.

Another bigger difference is the batteries within the brush handles.

Both have a battery built into the handle, the Pro 600 a Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) battery and the Pro 2 2000 a Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion).

Oral-B Pro 600 vs Pro 2 2000 4

The 600 offers up to 10 days battery life or 40 minutes of brushing timer.  The Pro 2 2000 offers 2 weeks.  In fact our hands on testing achieved 16 days or 64 minutes of brushing time.

Using this newer technology means less frequent charging and it also means that the battery should last longer too, giving you a longer ownership period.

Brushing your teeth with too much pressure can be damaging to the teeth and gums, it can cause gum recession.  Bristles need only skim the tooth and gum surface, it does not need to scrub hard.

Oral-B Pro 600 vs Pro 2 2000 5

Built into the Pro 2 2000 is a visible pressure sensor.  When the brush detects that too much force is being used when brushing, it will not only slow the motor to reduce damage it will activate a Red LED on the neck of the brush.  The light will go out when the pressure is reduced.  At the same time the motor will power up again.

The 600 does not have this visible pressure sensor.  The motor would slow down, but it would not give the visual warning.

It is very useful, particularly for new electric toothbrush users, but after a short while you do get used to the amount of pressure you need apply.

Both brush handles come supplied with a single brush head in the box.

Oral-B offer a range of different brush heads, all of which are interchangeable.

This means if your brush comes with a Sensitive brush head you can change it for a 3D White head at a later point if you want.  A clip on and off system makes this very easy.

Oral-B Pro 600 vs Pro 2 2000 6

There are 5 different variants of the 600. It is the same brush handle, a gloss White body with a Pale Blue rubber grip down the front, the only difference is the included brush head.  With 1 exception the Pink Edition that has a pink grip.

The choices are:

  • Pro 600 CrossAction
  • Pro 600 Deep Clean
  • Pro 600 3D White/ White & Clean
  • Pro 600 Sensi Ultrathin/Sensitive
  • Pro 600 Pink Edition CrossAction

There are 3 variants of the Pro 2 2000, these are:

  • Pro 2 2000N – CrossAction brush head
  • Pro 2 2000S – Sensi UltraThin brush head
  • Pro 2 2000W – 3D White brush head
Oral-B Pro 600 vs Pro 2 2000 7

The 2000N and S share the same body, gloss White plastic with a Dark Blue rubber grip down the front, whilst the 2000W has normally a Pink rubber grip.

Whilst it would be nice to buy a Pink handled Pro 2 2000 with a CrossAction brush head, this is not normally how they come packaged; but of course the head can be changed.

There is too a White gripped handle that comes with a Sensi UltraThin head.

As a result of the 600 having less features it is normally cheaper, more on that shortly.

Both brushes come with a 2 year warranty, are water resistant, have a built in timer and come with a charging stand.

Oral-B Pro 600 vs Pro 2 2000 8

Does one clean better than the other?

Technically, the more powerful motor found in the Pro 2 2000 means more movements in the brush head and the ability to clean better than the Pro 600.

However, in reality, being able to see or feel the differences are virtually impossible unless under laboratory conditions.

Perhaps long term the benefits and effects of the more powerful motor are noticeable, so for peace of mind there is an appeal here.

Oral-B Pro 600 vs Pro 2 2000 9

The extra cleaning mode on the 2000 will mean for some it cleans better as the slower movements will better suit those with tender teeth and gums that cannot handle the more powerful Daily Clean mode.

Another slight catch to this is that the results may differ depending on the brush heads used.

As we explained different ones come supplied, but all the Oral-B heads are interchangeable and can be used on different models. Certain heads may achieve better results in certain circumstances for certain individuals.

Using the smaller round brush heads that Oral-B promote you can get a fantastic clean and they will all remove more plaque than a manual toothbrush leaving your mouth cleaner and fresher than before.

Is one better priced than the other?

Most definitely.

The Pro 600 tends to be available for approximately half the price of the 2000.

At the time of writing the Pro 600 is being sold for £19.95 compared to the £34.98 for the Pro 2 2000..

Going by the RRP there is a £20 difference, the Pro 2 2000 commanding the premium but the reality is that the actual real world price difference is a little less, about £15.

Please note that all prices quoted are approximates and will vary based on location, supplier and time of purchase.  These figures were correct at the time of writing and should not be relied upon as hard fact, but used as a guide during your decision process.

Conclusion

The Pro 2 2000 is the one to go for unless you are on a really strict budget.

The extra power, better battery life, cleaning mode and pressure sensor make it worth the investment, it is not a brush you will be disappointed by and it without doubt one of the most popular brushes available today.

Slim and lightweight, offering a good clean and an array of features and interchangeable heads, it is a superb electric toothbrush that will improve your oral health and could long term reduce your dental bills!

Very informative, thank you. As they have different motors, do they vibrate and leave the same sensation? Or is the 600 quieter and less vibrating than the 2000?

Good question. The vibration and noise they produce is very similar as is the brushing sensation. It is virtually impossible to tell the difference between them. The Pro 600 offers 8,800 oscillations and 20,000 pulsations compared to the 9,900 and 45,000 of the Pro 2 2000.

Is it normal for there to be a small gap between the bottom of the head and top of the handle? Also, sometimes have to press the power button twice to activate the brush.

Hi Nathan. Yes a gap of 1-2mm approx is normal between the brush head and the handle. You shouldn't normally have to press the power button twice though.
